Re CCI report: page 13. I asked the author about this. "Firms are key to prosperity - successful, innovative firms make outsized contributions to productivity growth and diffuse technology adoption AND other good management practices across the economy," I asked if he had any examples of this. NO. Academic finding: a journal article from 2012 referring to the USA. This is worth studying and researching, however.
re Business Council - "For too long, Canada has lacked ambition and a long-term vision for prosperity, instead being content with its status as neighbours of the world’s largest economy. We can no longer afford that level of comfort and complacency." I agree, but does he not see the irony? He is saying his members lack ambition and vision, as they are "the businesses" which must solve challenges and invest in new solutions to create value. FYI about 10 years ago, the Business Council of Australia produced a report on innovation that concluded a weakness in most companies is middle management. They 'hinder" innovation.
Re Farm Credit Canada - 2025 report... chart on core agri industries - shows how little agri product is exported overall (outside of the USA). The amount going to other countries is rather small. Same issue - do we look to innovate to create higher value brands and products? Not really.
Thanks for the thoughtful analysis, Tom.
